TellMed AI — Purpose-Built Intelligence for Life Science Communication

Across emerging biotechs, established pharmaceutical leaders, and mission-driven organizations, TellMed has demonstrated that the most impactful communication demands scientific precision, strategic discipline, creativity and alacrity.

Today, those expectations are only rising as AI is integrated across life science industries. Scientific narratives are growing more nuanced and timelines are accelerating, while our standards remain high and we continue to deliver quality content. Over the past year, we have been developing a proprietary closed platform called TellMed AI that enhances our deliverables without sacrificing medical accuracy, diminishing our personal approach or moving beyond regulatory or security confines.

When I helped launch the New York Times Science and Health website, we were excited about how it made accurate scientific information more accessible to the public. I felt the same way when I helped to build, and continue to enhance, TellMed AI with my colleagues. These two platforms create the same kind of lift. They make information more accessible, aligned, and usable, and TellMed AI, of course, goes many steps further.

51% of public relations professionals say their organization has an AI use-case policy (up from 21% in 2024) according to Muck Rack’s study about the State of AI in 2026. With AI, though, there are more security concerns than those related to a website or email system.  We’ve had to carefully ensure systems are in place, including multi-factor authentication, two-way data encryption and compliance with leading industry standards and guidelines that are HIPAA and SOC 2 compliant.

But when all those pieces come together, AI can be transformative.

Amplifying TellMed’s Expertise

Purpose-built for the pace and pressure of life science communication, TellMed AI has become a strategic sidekick, enabling our teams to better tap our superpowers of analysis, scientific insightfulness, and creativity.

As a strategic sidekick, TellMed AI, frees up our teams to focus on the expert thinking on which our clients rely: interpreting complex science, refining strategies, and crafting stories that resonate across audiences, and allow us to ensure perfect execution.

While AI-generated research must always be verified and generic tools can produce writing that feels impersonal, choppy, or repetitive without careful prompting, TellMed AI, guided by our team’s expertise, is already delivering meaningful value today.

Across clients, we are using this proprietary system to reduce duplicative tasks, organize insights, track trends, accelerate drafts, refine complex deliverables and gain quick access to context that previously required deep digging while safeguarding confidential materials. Importantly, TellMed AI also allows us to quickly explore multiple angles and flesh out concepts so that we can consider the implications when we are brainstorming ideas, framing a press release, shaping social media strategy, or developing novel media outreach approaches. For media efforts, it allows us to dig deeper into reporter research, allowing us to expand our knowledge of trends, further personalize media pitches, and improve reporter relationships.

Recently, our client BlueWillow Biologics  published an impactful Nature Communications  study validating their H5N1 (bird flu) intranasal  adjuvanted vaccine. TellMed AI strengthened our work by supporting both the research and pitch-development process. We used the platform to conduct the initial sweep of reporters, outlets, and topic areas, supplementing our internal and subscription databases. This enabled us to quickly expand our pool of relevant journalists, and more thoroughly vet each one to ensure they were the right fit for the news. TellMed AI also streamlined the background research needed to craft compelling and scientifically grounded narratives that incorporated the latest news on the H5N1 for media pitches. As a result, we were able to develop more personalized, resonant pitches, especially to freelancers who are increasingly influential across mainstream consumer and health outlets, and this helped us secure placements across a range of impactful outlets, and appearances for the CEO on In Vivo Citeline’s podcast and the Unbiased Science podcast.

In short, we are tapping TellMed AI to enhance our ability to deliver stronger work, elevate complex scientific narratives, and provide even greater value to the clients who trust us with their stories, and allow us to continue to raise the standard for what exceptional life science communication looks like.

A Proprietary, Purpose-Built Platform

As a former communications professor — and a die-hard English major with a biological sciences minor — I’ve genuinely enjoyed digging into the science behind LLMs (large language models). Training TellMed AI feels a lot like teaching: just as breakthrough science requires a strong foundation, breakthrough communication depends on the right syllabus. That’s why my colleagues and I came together to thoughtfully train TellMed AI to match TellMed’s strategic frameworks, scientific language, client-approved messaging, and internal best practices.

TellMed AI was developed in-house at TellMed Strategies and is securely hosted on OpenAI’s enterprise infrastructure, meeting the rigorous standards required for life science communication and confidentiality. The system is a secure, purpose-built platform based on our own expertise and designed to create space to increase our strategic thinking and is engineered to elevate the quality, rigor, and cohesion of the work we produce.

We have worked to train this closed system on the needs and character of our clients and the advancements they are pursuing from space-based medical solutions and first-in-class therapeutics to next-generation theranostics and novel drug-delivery platforms.

Through TellMed AI, we are moving even faster, thinking even deeper, and bringing more strategic insight to everything we do.
